Of course, there are may be just as many reasons to not like Compare Foods, but I try not to think about those too much. Because, man oh man, is this a wacky grocery store. First of all, it’s always packed to the gills and manic as hell. There is an inexplicable jewelry counter at the front. There are palletes in the aisles, and people and kids are everywhere. Also, be prepared for anything over $10 or most booze to not be in their computer. When scanned, they may wait for you to guess the price. If it is in the computer they’ll scan it in and say, “It’s $10.” Then they will stare at you and wait to see if you’re going to still want it. In my case, it’s 70 kitchen bags with Forceflex®, so, yes, I still wanted them.

But back to the good stuff. I love, LOVE, walking through a grocery store and not knowing what half the stuff is. They doubled the size of the produce section. Not only to bring us 3 for $1.00 Avocados, but also for 6 for $1.00 limes. Glory be. And there are Cactus leaves and roots and yucca and other bulby things I hope to learn all about and prepare. Mountains of peppers, dried and fresh.

A lot of the American foods from the original Lowes Foods remain. They left whitey’s cheese section there too. American slices and all. But turn the corner and you’ve got a WALL of every type of queso I never knew existed!

There is one glorious aisle which I can’t get enough of. This is where my favorite items live!

Alcohol Free? Boo.

Entrancing.

Chipotle, Cilantro, Parsley and Onion Bullion!

Typography of yesteryear.

Cherub.

Whatever this is I want it.

Gee Whiz!

Fufu Callaloo!

Oh! And I just found out they DELIVER in town if your order is at least $50. This store is so Southside it doesn’t know what to do with itself.

Ask Amanda about her experience there. I forgot to mention the meat section with freshly-made chorizo! Many types of mystery meat as well.
