I want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life
Published February 1st, 2007 in Computer Love.Fairly often I have call 1and1.com support for a blog I manage for a client. It’s a very popular blog and crashes on occasion. I’m always put on hold while they un-break it and they ALWAYS play Dido’s “Thank You”, which is about this girl who has a crappy job, owes money all over town, is hung over, but when her special man calls her up, everything is better and it’s now the best day of her life. This song choice is no mistake. It is an attempt to manipulate the pissy caller into get over their troubles and also repeats the words “thank you” and “it’s not so bad” over and over so hopefully you’ll be calmed down by the time “While my guitar gently weeps” comes on and they tell you they’re escalating your case to the server support team. It actually kind of works, even though I detest that song, I always get a little more perspective on my site trubs.
My tea’s gone cold, I’m wondering why
I got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window
and I can’t see at all
And even if I could it’d all be grey,
but your picture on my wall
It reminds me that it’s not so bad,
it’s not so bad
I drank too much last night, got bills to pay,
my head just feels in pain
I missed the bus and there’ll be hell today,
I’m late for work again
And even if I’m there, they’ll all imply
that I might not last the day
And then you call me and it’s not so bad,
it’s not so bad and
I want to thank you
for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you
is having the best day of my life
Push the door, I’m home at last
and I’m soaking through and through
Then you hand me a towel
and all I see is you
And even if my house falls down,
I wouldn’t have a clue
Because you’re near me and
I want to thank you
for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you
is having the best day of my life
One time I called and got Simply Red’s “I Keep Holding On.” It infuriated me, then it made me laugh. Hard.
