Remembering the Toppette

Daniel and I woke up today needing Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I eat them about twice a year. Mostly because when you decide to eat them, you really have to GO FOR IT.

Daniel has an art show and finals to complete in one week, so we agreed that today was our day! Both of us are now flying high on strong homemade coffee and toooo many doughnuts. My favorite is the chocolate iced cream filled. I also had one with sprinkles (glazed, chocolate icing, standard long skinny sprinkles) out of tradition, but it really made me yearn for the original Toppette.

The glorious Topette was a cake doughnut with tiny round multi-colored nonpareils stuck on with white icing. It was the best combination of dense cake dough with the cool icing and the super crunchy candy bits crammed on every tiny bit of icing. Then, after you eat them, there’s little drops of candy covered icing bits in the box you can pick up with your forefinger. Crrronche. Yum.

The Toppette went the way of the original KK building where a circle of old men drank coffee and smoked cigarettes all day long.

I miss the topette too! I want to make some of my own someday. I just need krispy kreme plain doughnuts and some icing and sprinkles. If krispy kreme made munchkin type things I would try with those

This post was from a few years ago and I have no idea if your blog is still active, but “here-here!” for honoring the topette. I miss it too and have even written to KK to inquire about a comeback!

Thank you for having the only link about the Topette in my google search results. I eagerly await it’s return…
